Kevin Gandica

Discover Kevin Gandica, talented painter and the voice of the amazing Kailani Place, Frankie Gallo Cha Cha Cha.

Where does your inspiration come from when you start a painting?

It can come from my positive or negative emotions, music, sex, dislikes, politics, some occasional drunkenness, sporadic scribbles… sometimes I don’t know where it comes from, but it comes.

Whose work has influenced you the most?

Hokusai, Warhol, Hieronymus Bosch, Dalí and Jacek Yerka.

Between all your paintings, which one is your favourite? Why?

Tuna-Porco. It is a trio of doble-magnum wine bottles that allow me to play and change the composition of the work depending on the whim of that day. It was the first work of that kind that I have made and my favourite until now. It is exhibited in Bar Brutal in Borne.

Aside from being an artist, you’re in charge of marketing and communication for the provocative Frankie Gallo Cha Cha Cha. What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Eating… I love being in Frankie because there’s always something happening or someone you want to get to know. But what I love most is eating!

For you, what is essential to be a good community manager?

Discipline to organise your communications (quality I don’t have) and creativity for the copy and the interaction with the public.

What are your other hidden secrets?

Cooking, dancing salsa, playing harmonica and throwing axes.

An item you couldn’t live without?

I couldn’t live without painting or music. So something that allows me to listen to music (computer, turntable, phone, etc…).

The last song that got stuck in your head?

Nightcall – Kavinsky

Now we will ask you some quick questions to get to know you better.

Early bird or night owl?

Both! But more of a night owl, I don’t sleep much.

Beach or mountain?

Beach, I need to be near by the sea (that’s why I live in Barcelona now). In Guaira, I used to live between the sea and the mountain so I didn’t have to choose.

Pizza or arepa?

I don’t know… too hard to choose! Next question!

Bright or pastel colours?

Both… together but not mixed.

Oil or water?

Water, I don’t like to wait for the oil to dry.

Abstract or figurative?

Surrealist.

Fast or slow?

Slow.

Serious or outrageous?

Serious.

Green, white or black? Talking about our healthy soft drinks of course!

Green with ginger.
